Monday
Your experience in the Faroe Islands begins today. Upon arrival a shuttle taxi will await you and take you to Tórshavn where you can check in at Hotel Føroyar or Hotel Tórshavn. Hotel Føroyar is located on a hill with an amazing city & sea view. Hotel Tórshavn is a city hotel and is in the heart of Tórshavn, Vágsbotnur.
Tuesday
From Tórshavn you will go on three hours guided bike tour to Norðadalsskarð. The tour begins in the city center, and you will ride up the old mountain road where you have an amazing view towards the northern part of the islands. Arriving in Norðadalsskarð, which is located 225 m above sea level, the view to the island Koltur and the village Norðadal is spectacular. The ride back to Tórshavn offers a view over the southern parts of the islands.
Wednesday
Today we recommend that you explore Tórshavn on your own. You can take a walk through the city and visit the old part “úti á Reyni” and the worlds oldest parliament “Tinganes”. Also take the opportunity to visit the fort “Skansin” and enjoy the view over the marina and parts of “down town” Tórshavn. Visit the Faroese wool and craft shops, the charming café’s and enjoy a nice dinner at one of the great restaurants the city has to offer.
Thursday
Today the program offers a second guided bike tour. A 3-hour ride that starts in the center of Tórshavn. The tour starts with a bike ride through the city center and passes the mountain towards Kirkjubøur. Arriving in Kirkjubøur you will visit the only Cathedral and oldest Church in the Faroe Islands. Here you will also visit the roughly 900-year-old Roykstovan which is the oldest wooded house on the islands – in which people still live. On the ride back to Tórshavn you will cycle through the village “Velbastaður” and back over the mountain pass to Tórshavn. During the tour you will have a view of the islands Sandoy, Hestur, Koltur and Vágar.
Friday
Exploring the islands from the mountain side is a must and therefore you will go on a guided hike with Heimdal tours today, where you will walk in the footsteps of the old vikings. You will pass sights where battles were fought 700 years ago while hearing the thrilling stories. The hike leads to Sornfelli where you have a breathtaking panoramic view overlooking Vágar island and Trøllkonufingur (the witches’ finger). After the hike you will also get a guided tour through the old city of Tórshavn, “úti á Reyni”. The tour is approximately four hours.
In the evening there will be a table waiting for you at Skeiva Pakkhús located down at the Tórshavn marina. Here you will be served a menu called “Norðlýsið” with various Italian courses made with Faroese products – Just delicious!
